Christmas Card Collective

Haute Note has just donated 200 Christmas cards to The Christmas Card Collective, and we’d like to tell you a little about Erin Schulte and her Collective.  When we heard about it, we just couldn’t jump fast enough to be part if it!

The Christmas Cards that Haute Note is donating to The Christmas Card Collective - HauteNotecards.com

It all began three years ago when Erin started writing Christmas cards for the homeless, distributing over 300 cards on her own with the help of family and friends.

The next year, it grew to a few thousand.

And now, THIS year – her goal is 10,000!  AMAZING!

We first heard about her on Global TV… https://globalnews.ca/news/6179936/north-delta-christmas-card-collective-canadian-us-shelters/ …and then found the Christmas Card Collective on Facebook… (link below).  We encourage YOU to check it out too!  This year is a pretty huge undertaking.  But it looks like she’s well on her way, by enlisting the help of school children, sports organizations, church groups – anyone that wants to help!

Time is of the essence!  If you’d like to be part of this heart-warming initiative, grab or make some Christmas cards, and fill them with warm greetings, positive thoughts and uplifting messages.  They will be placed on the beds of clients at Homeless Shelters and Youth Shelters in Surrey, Alberta, Toronto, Seattle and LA.  Sadly, these cards may be the only thing they receive at Christmas.

Send your cards to:

The Christmas Card Collective
/8348 – 111A Street
Delta, BC
V4C 4S4.

(Please leave the envelopes unsealed, just so they can be sure 100% of the messages are kind, and in the spirit of Christmas.)

Happy Holidays to you, and yours… from Lorie and Bob at Haute Note.

Christchurch Letter Writers Society

Sometimes, we watch the news, and feel helpless, not knowing how to help or support those who, through no action of their own, have found themselves in harm’s way.
Crafting a letter of compassion, can be a therapeutic process, for both the sender… and the receiver.
Here is a link to a Blog, with information about the Christchurch Letter Writers Society, which is accepting and distributing letters, on behalf of New Zealand Muslim communities.

Write on…. and drown out hate with love.

Write On…

There are so many awesome people out there, doing their enthusiastic best to revive the long lost art of letter writing.

Gone are the days of receiving anything but junk mail and bills in your mail box… Also gone, the drawer, or tattered box, with a secret little stash of precious letters from love ones, cherished and re-read on occasion.  The instant world of email is disposable, and forgettable.  Certainly not kept and treasured.

Social letter writing events, are popping up all over the place!
Here are three that we would love to tell you about:

Barb Marshall of Rite While U Can, hosts her letter writing socials at various locations around Calgary.  She lists the days and places in the link below.  For a $15 fee, she provides the stationery, stamps, card trimmings, the use of vintage typewriters, a cup of coffee or glass of wine!

(Barb also co-founded MakeItMerry, an organization that coordinates people from all over, to write Christmas cards to the homeless.)

Andrea of QandALetterBox and Jessica of Paper Trail Diary, are the organizers of The Toronto Letter Writers Society, held every second Sunday.  There is no cost.  You can bring your own supplies, or use theirs.

(Andrea is also one of the organizers of the Pretty Postal Swap.  These themed swap events are a few times a year, and super fun.  We have participated in every one of these swaps.  If you love to receive snail mail and pretty envelopes, this is the thing for you!

Assembly of Text is a Vancouver store – an analogue junkie’s paradise. They also hosts a Letter Writing Club on the first Thursday every month.  There is no cost, supplies are provided.  They, too, have vintage typewriters at your disposal.

So.  If you’re looking for a little incentive to start writing letters, look these groups up, or find an organization in your neck of the woods.  We know you’ll have fun, and we GUARANTEE, you will put a big smile on some lucky recipient’s face!
